Sergio Rangel Penzo
Multidisciplinary Artist
New York-Caracas
Sergio Rangel (Caracas, Venezuela, 1969) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans installation, performance, digital media, and conceptual art. Living and working between New York City and Europe, Rangel explores the intersections between technology, spirituality, and human perception through projects that merge interactive media, sound, and visual experimentation. With a background bridging fine arts and programming, his career includes decades of art direction for major international agencies and exhibitions across Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. His recent works, including the *Re-existentialist Manifesto* and the interactive exhibition *Presence*, reflect his ongoing inquiry into the reformulation of energy, consciousness, and aesthetic experience in the digital age.

Souvenir By Sergio Rangel Penzo, NYC 2025 The enduring legacy of 20th-century Conceptualism, defined by gestures like Piero Manzoni’s Merda d'artista, established a scathing critique of the art market. This critique formalized the Aesthetic of the Signature, where the creator’s imprint became the sole determinant of speculative value. I posit that the 21st-century market remains sustained by this principle, trading in Souvenirs: fetish objects imbued with the creator’s instantaneous imprint. My work directly addresses this chaotic fragmentation of context and the detachment of the creative act from traditional craftsmanship. My practice is anchored in the Reexistentialist Art Manifesto, which demands a formal redefinition of the elements that constitute the whole: re-creation, transformation, and physical manifestation. This is the necessary philosophical break from the indifference and institutional critique of late Conceptualism. The resultant Multiverse Object is the material index of this redefinition. The generating process is one of controlled chance: A source digital image undergoes uncontrolled transformation via Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms. This digitally evolved idea is materialized through chromogenic printing (C-Print). The print is affixed to a traditional support, layered with elements, and finally encased in polyurethane resin. The Souvenir object is thus a layered, multidimensional artifact. It serves as a post-digital archive—a tangible archive that documents the symbiotic tension between human consciousness and algorithmic generation—re-averring the material reality of the creator’s imprint in an age of pure concept.
